Founder of En Garde! Detroit
Bobby Smith is a serial social entrepreneur and leader of two extraordinary ventures. One of which is En Garde Detroit, a mobile provider of wellness programs that utilizes the sport of fencing.
En Garde has collaborated with numerous community organizations, which have helped to reach over 2,000 youth in the last two years. The organization is also responsible for bringing the first North American Cup, a major national fencing tournament, to Michigan in over 25 years. An estimated $2M in tax revenue was generated from the 5,000 or more visiting patrons. Bobby was born in Kingston, Jamaica and raised in some of the most unforgiving urban environments on the east coast. Given the opportunity to learn fencing through a non-profit program in New York City, he used his gifts to earn an athletic scholarship to Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.
Bobby believes that access to non-traditional experiences saved and enhanced his life. He is currently developing a non-profit that will erase the barriers that prevent low-income youth from access to non-traditional sports. His goal is to provide youth a pipeline to Olympic competition & NCAA scholarships in non-traditional sports.
