Paul,

I appreciate the feedback. Personal branding is by far one of the hottest buzzwords in the social media and career spaces today which means there is going to be a gold rush to monetize the idea. My perspective on personal branding has always been that it is not just a career strategy, but a lifestyle which does not guarantee you will make more money. In actuality you might make less money, but really love what you do. As personal brand strategists I believe if we sent people down a path purely based upon the fact they will make more money we create a bigger problem. There can be a lot of value with personal branding but there are a lot of mixed messages so people will have to cut through the noise.

Hajj, great post and some very on target points. Especially the authentic piece, there is a danger that personal branding is running away with the notion of quick fame and fortune, your examples of Gary and Robert highlight that there needs to be a foundation and sweat equity to it too.
